There are plenty of wealthy suburbs here in the Lone Star State. But did you know the wealthiest suburb in Texas is also one of the wealthiest in the nation? It certainly didn’t come as a shock to me when I learned the results of a recent study by Go Banking Rates.

Old Money and Generational Wealth in Texas

There’s a lot of money here in the Lone Star State. The oil and cattle industries have made many folks rich over the years. While I don’t know for sure, I assume much of the money in this state is what they call “old money,” aka wealth that has been passed down for generations.

When I think about rich Texans, Dallas immediately comes to mind (it probably has something to do with the classic TV series of the same name). And while there are plenty of affluent suburbs in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, one in particular stands out among them all: University Park.

University Park: Home of SMU and Serious Wealth 

The area is named for the fact that it is home to Southern Methodist University, which happens to be the most expensive university in Texas. If you’ve never been through there, let’s just say that it’s abundantly clear that some of the wealthiest people in the state reside there. So many that University Park was ranked the fourth-wealthiest suburb in the U.S.
