Are you one of those people who like being scared? If so, here are a few Texas spots you need to visit.

I’ll be the first to admit to being a big old scaredy cat. I’ve never been someone who would seek out allegedly haunted places to explore. I’ll leave that to paranormal investigators.

But I have no problem watching videos of paranormal investigations (you know, from a nice, safe distance). I can go down that rabbit hole for hours at a time.

So, I was curious to see just how many places in Texas made the list of the most terrifying places in America, according to loveEXPLORING. And lo and behold, the Lone Star State was well represented on the list.

The Three Most Haunted Places in Texas

Marfa: Mysterious Lights in the West Texas Desert

I was first turned on to Marfa as a destination for creatives of all types. The town has drawn painters, performers, musicians, filmmakers, etc. for years now.

But Marfa is also known for supernatural activity. For over a hundred years, folks have seen strange orbs, known as the Marfa lights, moving across the horizon. To this day, there’s no official explanation for the Marfa lights.

The Alamo: A Historic Site with a Haunted Legacy

The Alamo is a place every Texan should visit in their lifetime. I mean, you can’t talk about Texas history without mentioning the Alamo.

Of course, the reason is that hundreds of Texans died at the Battle of the Alamo. People visiting have reported seeing shadows and hearing the moans of deceased soldiers over the years. In fact, San Antonio as a whole is considered one of the most haunted cities in America.

Driskill Hotel: Austin’s Most Elegant Haunt

The historic Driskill Hotel in Austin is a beautiful landmark. Wealthy cattle baron Jesse Driskill built the grand hotel in the 1880s.

Even though ownership has changed hands many times since, word has it that Jesse Driskill is still attached to the hotel. Driskill liked to smoke cigars while chatting with guests in the lobby. Every now and then, folks will report smelling cigar smoke in the lobby, even though there’s no one smoking in there.

The Driskill is also supposedly haunted by a friendly child ghost named Samantha, the daughter of a senator who died after falling down the stairs. Living children have reported playing with a child named Samantha while staying there.
