What Exactly Is a Blue-Plate Special?
While I’ve heard of the blue-plate special, I don’t believe I’ve ever ordered one (at least, not by that name). But if you’ve ever had a plate that comes with a main course and three sides, you’ve had one. Seeing as I rate restaurants in the Lone Star State according to their chicken fried steak, I’ve had many.

If you know me, you know I’m always on the lookout for a new restaurant to try. Hitting up new eateries is probably my favorite thing about road trips. I so look forward to chowing down at a place we don’t have in my hometown.

And loveFOOD is a great source for finding new places to grub out. So, of course, I immediately clicked into their story about the best places to get a blue-plate special in each state.
After patiently clicking through each slide of the alphabetized list until I finally reached the slide for Texas, I added Norma’s Cafe to my never-ending restaurant bucket list.
A Texas Tradition Since 1956
Norma’s was founded in Dallas back in 1956. The original cafe in Oak Cliff serves customers to this day. They’ve since opened two more locations in Dallas, as well as Frisco, Plano, and Garland. Take a look at their impressive menu here.
