Texas Judge Accused Of Racism After Social Media “Ozark” Comment

A Texas judge has been accused of making a racist comment on social media, but his office is blaming his "jokester" wife for leaving it, according to The Barbed Wire.

The questionable comment left by the account of Nueces County Judge Jack Pulcher was: “In 5 years she built that kind of business…. Ozark part 4…”

Ozark is a Netflix series that centers on an unethical businessman played by Jason Bateman, so one could assume that the comment is intended to imply the business owner is engaging in money laundering and other illegal activities to fund her success.

The business owner, Gabriela Bucio, took offense to the comment, and in a formal complaint explained why she saw it as racist:

By referencing this show, Judge Pulcher insinuated that, because I am Mexican and own multiple successful businesses, my success must be tied to illegal activities.

Bucio also called out Judge Pulcher on her Instagram account:

Bucio is the entrepreneur behind many trendy and successful Austin-area businesses and has been featured in numerous news articles.

Some of her ventures include: "the all-pink Taquero Mucho restaurant and Revival Coffee shop, Mala Vida, Mala Fama and Mala Santa nightclubs, Gabriela's, Seareina's, etc," according to mysanantonio.com.

When The Barbed Wire reached out to Judge Pulcher's office for comment, they were told by the judge’s court manager, Laura Salinas, that it was Judge Pulcher's wife Celina Ybarbo who made the controversial comment.

It begs the question of why would a public figure allow for their account to be shared, particularly if the other person may make, at best, unprofessional comments using it. Would that excuse hold up in....court?

I doubt it.
