Remember the ‘Biggest Party in History’ in Texas?

We know that everything is bigger in Texas and that includes having some of the biggest parties ever. People in Texas love to go big when attempting to do just about anything, so I was excited to do a little research on the largest party that ever took place in Texas. And after looking around online I did find out some interesting details around an event in 1989 that was called the “Biggest Party in History”.

You need to understand that back in 1989 there was a little bit more of a laid-back vibe, and of course if you’re going to be throwing one of the biggest parties in history you need to have it sponsored by a big beer company, so this party was powered by Miller-Lite. But when you think about the biggest party in Texas, it’s not just about one party, this event spanned over multiple cities. 

It Was a Gigantic Party Labor Day Weekend in 1989 

Miller Lite spent nearly $15 million dollars promoting the events that took place in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Odessa, McAllen, Houston and Dallas. It really was a statewide party with everything from beach volleyball to live music to pro wrestling. There were two stadium shows to headline the huge weekend with the Who and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Stevie Ray Vaughan played a short set for a crowd in downtown Dallas then a sold-out show at the Cotton Bowl Stadium that night. 

There Will Never Be Another Party This Big 

I don’t think we will ever see another huge multiple city party like this in Texas. People love spending time at home, and it would take a lot for so many people to leave their home for a big party. I just don’t see anything like this happening again, but we can always relive those glory days.
