Everywhere you look it seems there are more and more new houses being built. Abilene is growing. Buying a home, especially for the first time, is a big deal. According to a document from the National Association of Realtors, the first process for most people in looking for a home is to take to the internet.

That's exactly what I did as I've been on the hunt for a new home. Real estate websites have become my new best friend. I'm looking for that one gem out there that I can claim as my own. As I was scrolling through the pages of listings I wondered what the cheapest house for sale in Abilene would be.

According to Trulia, this house is listed at 35K and is a definite fixer-upper. The property, which is slated to be condemned, is located at 757 Mesquite here in Abilene. It's a 3 bedroom, 1 bath home that's 1,254 square feet in space. I didn't notice the year that the home was built but from its looks, it's been around a while.

The listing goes on to say that the home is in a growing part of the city and within walking distance of downtown. I'd say for the price it might be a great idea if you flip houses or have a rental portfolio.

It just goes to show you, you never know what you'll find in the places you look. Who knows, for the price, you might be able to turn it around into a profitable investment. I've certainly seen houses this size fetch $1,400 to $1,600 per month in rent once fixed up.

From one end of the spectrum to the other, Texas can also boast some of the biggest and most expensive homes you'll ever see. One, in particular, is absolutely spectacular. Look below for all the pictures.
