The wind in Texas has been absolutely insane lately with some towns reporting wind gusts as high as 87 mph! Dust is definitely in the air as folks in the Lone Star State get that familiar crunch of dirt to go with their food.
Yes, wind is an everyday frustration in Texas. And with this updated list of the windiest cities in America, it's no surprise that the Lone Star State has landed 5 towns in the top 10, including Abilene.

The website Redfin used the highest average wind speeds from cities with at least 100,000 in population to come up with their rankings.

If you're from Texas, this is probably not surprising as sometimes the wind is so bad that chickens are laying the same egg twice.
As you can see, The Windy City (Chicago) was not included in the top 10. There are conflicting stories about how Chicago got that name. Obviously, the weather may have had to do with it, but I've also heard that the name was derived from the fact that politicians were "full of hot air". Regardless, Chicago is not on this list.

According to AccuWeather, the highest wind speed ever recorded was on top of Mount Washington on April 12, 1934. That day a 231 mph gust of wind swept across the highest peak in the Northeast.
