Whether it's a dog, cat, snake, cow, or even pig, folks in Texas love their pets, some even treating them like they were children. My wife and I are guilty of being one of those people. So, we're always looking out for any weird things that may be happening with our pets.

Recently, my wife noticed a spot on the belly of our new puppy that seemed to have grown quite a bit while we were gone on vacation. My wife makes a vet appointment thinking that it could be a hernia, or something bad. Once the vet checked out our little pup, they assured us that everything was fine and that it was simply a belly button.

Yes, it's true. Like humans, cats and dogs have belly buttons. Talk about blowing my mind, I had no idea! According to Hill's Pet, though not as pronounced as humans, cats and dogs have belly buttons on their abdomen.

Unless it's an egg-laying mammal or a marsupial, all mammals have belly buttons with an umbilical cord attached at birth. After birth, the mama usually will chew through the cord, severing it from the little pup or kitty.

While we were elated that it was nothing serious, my mind was blown. We've had several boxers over the years, and even cats, but never knew this fact. I guess our little pup just happens to have a very pronounced belly button.

I guess I just never really thought about the possibility, even though we all know that dogs and cats are mammals. It all makes sense to me now. It's funny the things we learn, even when you're an old man like me.
