Nothing sparks that holiday feeling in Texas quite like the Budweiser Clydesdales. Maybe it’s the classic commercials, maybe it’s the nostalgia… or maybe it’s just that these horses look like they were built by Santa’s blacksmith.

Either way, when they rolled into the Western Heritage Classic in Abilene earlier this year, it felt like the holiday season officially hit the Big Country, and the very talented Monica Weatherly captured every moment.

If you’ve never seen them in person, they’re massive, majestic, calm, and carry generations of American tradition with them. You can learn more about their history and tour schedule at their official site.

Why the Budweiser Clydesdales Feel Like a Holiday Tradition

The Clydesdales have become synonymous with the holidays thanks to decades of memorable commercials and nationwide appearances. They show up, and instantly it feels like December, even if it’s West Texas and we’re all wearing T-shirts in the “winter.”

Seeing them at the Western Heritage Classic was a rare treat. These horses don’t just appear anywhere, but when they do, it feels like witnessing a piece of American icon up close. Abilene showed up in a big way, and the Clydesdales delivered.

Our talented photographer, Monica Weatherly, caught every angle, the size, the detail, the presence. Her shots tell the story better than words ever could.
