An arctic blast is expected to move across Abilene and the Big Country which will drop the temperatures dramatically over the next few days. Ahead of the cold, the City of Abilene will be providing a warming center to help keep people in the Key City warm.

According to the National Weather Center, the front will help drop our temperatures down to 19 degrees tonight (December 21). Thursday, our high is only expected to be 34 degrees but by 5 pm those temperatures will drop to 19 degrees. Friday's high will only be 24 degrees.

Needless to say, it's going to be brutally cold. But to help keep people in Abilene warm, the city will be opening up a "warming center" Thursday, December 22nd, and Friday, December 23rd from 8 am to 5 pm at Rose Park in Abilene.

I think that's pretty cool (no pun intended) for Abilene to help out like that. We have so many homeless in town that can definitely use the help to stay warm. Plus, you never know if our grid is going to hold up. ERCOT says it should be fine, but we've heard that before.

I have a sneaky suspicion that ERCOT might be a little nervous right now. We shall see.
