Brothers Osborne on 2017 CMA Awards Win: ‘We’re the Luckiest Guys’
When 2017's CMA Awards Vocal Duo of the Year Brothers Osborne won the same CMA last year, they were not expecting to walk away with the trophy. Fast forward to Wednesday night's (Nov. 8) 2017 CMA Awards, and the the sibling duo, made up of John and TJ Osborne, had the opposite problem.
"I didn’t sleep a wink last night. I was up all night," John Osborne admitted to The Boot and other reporters backstage after their win. "Honestly, last year, I slept like a baby. I was like, 'There’s no chance we’re going to win,' so I probably got a good 10 hours of sleep. Last night, I was like, ‘Oh no, we might actually win.’"
Added TJ Osborne, "I don’t even know where to put these. It’s incredible. I just moved into a new house, and I’ll have to build a little spot to put them.
"We appreciate this so much. These are very iconic awards. To be able to look at them and think of all the hard work we’ve put into it -- and not only that, but the support that we’ve gotten from the community, and all of you guys," Osborne continued. "We’re the luckiest people in the world. And if you look at that ballot and see the names on there, we are totally the luckiest dudes on the planet, because I don’t know how this keeps happening."
Brothers Osborne, who were nominated in the Vocal Duo of the Year category along with Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, LoCash and Maddie & Tae, say their second win is a testament to their hard work finally paying off.
"We’ve always been underdogs, our entire lives, since we’ve been little kids, all the way up to playing music here in Nashville for years. And, honestly, last year we were the underdogs, and [that's] why it was so surprising for us to get the award," TJ Osborne says, "and once we won it, now people show up and they’re like, 'Okay, I see you won an award, now impress me.' And so it’s a little harder these days in some regards, but this is amazing, to have two of these."
Brothers Osborne also won the 2017 CMA for Music Video of the Year, for the video for their hit single "It Ain't My Fault."
